【PROSE】Diary of My Degree Internship

Internship Life was good, I learned more from that way.

Last day of my degree internship

2 Feb - 31 Mar 2016

The mental and physical experience in Breakthru was freaking cool and wonderful, I broke a few records during this internship period:

(1) No makeup, no skincare, and never thought of taking care of my outlook (because all I thought about was my stamina)

(2) I gave all my best of my vocal during the class and I just lost my voice in 1 month. (HAHA)

(3) Internship side by side with our Diploma juniors was like taking care of little sisters and brothers, which discover another kind-hearted side of mine. (They are so marvelous, cute, responsible, hardworking, and many more good terms to describe them.)

And then, the internship journey is coming to an end.

Lively people gone, but I stay, to become confirmed permanent colleagues here and continue the fight for my every day with little cute evils.

When I can remember Ethan was talking all day long about "Tay Ki Poh, Tay Ki Poh coming soon, Tay Ki Poh coming Saturday."  But he wouldn't know the goodbye is forever; Brayden also only can recall those old sweet days when gor gor and jie jie taught him homework one to one with full of patience during Ace Time.

Glad that the celebration of farewell and the last day of the internship were nice and wonderful; people left but the memories stayed forever. I sincerely appreciate to work (and interned) at this platform so that we created good memories with one another. (The cooking of Leanne still spinning around on my mind)

30 Mar 2016

I was dreaming about giving a workshop or carry out activities to a bunch of school kids and the dream came true on this day. Thanks for the opportunity given by BEST and all the beloved colleagues' hard work, so that the activities can run smoothly at SK TAMAN MIDAH 2 with special need students and teachers.

Storytelling and ballooning were what I had in charge, of course, the newbie didn't run the activities best but it still the best explore for me; you scared of presentation? Nah, all the tension has gone here.
(Glad that my Bahasa is still well functioning, HAHA)

3 April 2016

On a Sunday with a sunny day, I was in a public forum (FOC some more!), the forum is about Inclusion and Autism, case studies and insider knowledge are my food today (especially Autism is actually can be fully recovered, the real case is existing and in front of us)

A kid outburst suddenly during the class, and the father warned her immediately based on human instinct, certainly, it wasn't good for the kid but she got even worse. Teachers requested the father to leave and we brought the kid to another quiet room.

The father smoked while waiting outside the class, he phoned call someone and start wandering around, he seems to tension no idea how to cope with this situation, we knew that it wasn't happening the first time, and the kid could be outburst or had similar responses in any places.

The mother was really upset and said: "When I become a mother, I only know how tired it is to  lift a kid, it is so restless to become one's father and mother."

I agree, totally agree with the mother, "yea.. especially when you have a special need child."

You know that's wonderful when you can learn from a mother how to play with his kid at home with simple equipment.

I was invited to join the RMT School Readiness professional class, and learn that a mom uses a scooter board to play with her son at home; the mom put a few sandbags on the runway, and compete with her son with a scooter board to collect sandbags as fast as they can. The mother also suggests there are various type of materials can replaced from the sandbag.

Ning Xian's mother was surprised and touched by her son's marble painting work hangs on the wall in the class, even though she knew his work was under the teacher's guidance.

It was a huge step forward to Ning Xian, as he had never presented any works in the class.

We were very happy to involve in the center's annual event --- BEST Cafe, it is a kind of event mixed with fun activities and charity. We had a mock run today for 9 different games which fully created and prepared by us, we get children to get us during the mock run, and you know how happy children can join the testing with us, especially when they heard of play outside.

My Little Notebook Here

Asymmetrical tonic neck reflex (ATNR)
  1. Primitive reflex in newborn humans
  2. Mostly vanished around 3 months old (or inhibited by 6 months old in the waking state)
  3. It is also known as fencing reflex: head turn to a side, that side of arm and legs will extend, the other side will bend/flex--like a trained fencer
  4. If the reflex is still active, it indicates that developmental delays
  5. Atypical / Abnormal
    • Atypical: reflexes may persist and even be pronounced
    • Abnormal: cause the future challenging for the growing child
  6. Hinder functional activities: rolling, bringing the hands together, bringing the hands to mouth, etc or serious damage: spine to the curve (scoliosis)
  7. Future challenges on the child: (reference)
  • Hand-eye coordination -- The ability to control the arm and hand when writing
  • Affect the ability to cross the verticle midline, E.g.: right-handed child may find it difficult to write on the left side of the page
  • The discrepancy between oral and written performance
  • Development of lateral eye movements, such as visual tracking, which is necessary for reading and writing
  • Control of automatic balance
  • Bilateral integration – differentiate and integrate the use of the two sides of the body
  • Continued cross laterality or ambiguity of laterality above eight years of age
Adult with ATNR challenges: commonly have an issue in contact sports (a sport which necessarily comes into bodily contact with one another)

Shoulder muscle contraction can be the reason for the issue of reflex and/or stress (mentally)

Negative comments on you during your growing stages can unconsciously affect your self-esteem and self-evaluation, that's where Hippocampus, a memory bank in which you have negative and bad memories inside. Those negatives and bad experiences take part during the formation of your personality and thoughts; you may think you aren't good enough, especially high in self-doubt and self-blaming when you make mistakes and/or people comments badly on you.

From this point, it shows that you do not have good emotional management, instead, you have to analyze the whole situation by putting yourself from a third party perspective. Remember, unorganized emotions and chaos of your inner will tell Amygdala to switch on fight and flight mode in every situation every day in your life, at the end, you live in a vicious cycle where things go wrong, you blame yourself and hate yourself, unstable emotions come out and make you even more anxious and depressed; you feel a disconnect to the surrounding and you are fearful and insecure everywhere, all you want is about to escape; you become weak and depressed.
